About This Theme
A library is full of stories, but it also has a language for helping you find and understand them. This crossword combines kinds of books with the parts that organize a volume. Think about where you would look for a definition, a topic or the writer's name. A few clues ask for the outside of a book; others send you toward its opening or closing pages. You can solve this one with the habits of an ordinary reader.

Answers and Explanations
After Your Solve
INDEX and GLOSSARY can both appear near the back of a book, but they answer different questions. An index helps locate a topic; a glossary explains a term. BIOGRAPHY and MEMOIR both concern lives, yet the writer's relationship to the subject differs. Those distinctions are useful when choosing a book as well as solving the grid. If you entered a merely related answer at first, revisit the small words in the clue that identify the exact function requested.
