About This Theme
Measuring turns a vague impression into something you can compare. This crossword introduces common units and the quantities they describe. A clue might ask how far, how long, how hot or how much electric current. Several answers are SI unit names, with the US spelling used for meter. You do not need to calculate anything. The challenge is to connect the right unit with the right kind of measurement.

Answers and Explanations
After Your Solve
A unit name only makes sense beside a quantity. METER measures length, SECOND measures time and KILOGRAM measures mass. NEWTON and JOULE are related through physics but answer different questions: force and energy. WATT adds power, the rate of energy transfer. Keeping those pairs distinct is useful even outside a science class. When a product label gives a number, the unit tells you what that number can legitimately be compared with.
